# TASUED campus references and reusable 3D assets

Research date: 2026-10-03. This is a source-backed visual reference inventory, **not a campus survey**. Downloaded assets and images are indexed in `assets/models/manifest.json`. The original `data/world.json` was not changed.

## What is delivered

- 21 real downloadable GLB models, selected from four official Kenney CC0 packs: palms, broadleaf trees, shrubs, grass, planters, a low fence, cars, a van, a cone, and modular architectural parts.
- Three required palette textures, kept separately in each pack's `Textures/` directory.
- Five actual TASUED photographs: Alex O, old Senate, CEPEP, driveway, main gate. Four are CC0 and the main gate photograph is CC BY-SA 4.0. These are reference images, not textures automatically applied to generic models.
- One explicitly approximate library POI in `data/campus-landmarks.json`, derived from a public address code rather than guessed from a building shape.
- No exact downloadable TASUED building GLB was found in the bounded searches of the public web, Commons, and Sketchfab-indexed results. This is a search limitation, not proof that none exists. Generic American suburban houses were deliberately **not** included or misrepresented as campus buildings.

## Coordinates and confidence contract

The scene uses the existing local equirectangular projection:

```text
origin latitude = 6.78320851 degrees
origin longitude = 3.92969918 degrees
R = 6371008.8 metres
x = R * radians(longitude - origin longitude) * cos(radians(origin latitude))
z = -R * radians(latitude - origin latitude)
```

Thus x is east, z is south, and scene y is elevation. The origin is a viewing anchor, not a verified entrance.

The coordinator's UI vocabulary is `surveyed | osm | modeled | unverified`. The library record therefore uses `confidence: "modeled"` plus `locationEvidence: "reference-based approximation"`. Nothing in this delivery qualifies as `surveyed`. `osmId` is deliberately absent because a nearby footprint is not enough to identify a building.

### Library candidate, not a verified building match

Official naming: [university library page](https://tasued.edu.ng/tasued-library/) and [linked library website](https://tasuedlibrary.org/) identify Otunba Gbenga Daniel University Library.

Public location evidence:

- [WorldOrgs library listing](https://ng.worldorgs.com/catalog/ijebu-ode/library/tasuedlibrary) gives `QWMJ+X8J, 120103, Ijebu Ode`.
- [Go Africa Online listing](https://www.goafricaonline.com/ng/994360-tasued-library) search-indexed address also gives `QWMJ+X8J`. Its current page extraction omitted the address line, so it is supporting search evidence only.
- [Trip.com library listing](https://hk.trip.com/travel-guide/attraction/ijebu-ode/tasued-library-142377908?locale=en_hk) gives the same address code.

Recovering that short code in Ijebu Ode produces `6FR5QWMJ+X8J`. Its cell centre is **6.7849625, 3.930765625**, projected to **[117.75, -195.04]**. Code-cell precision is not survey accuracy. These directories may share upstream data and do not establish three independent field measurements. This point may mark an entrance or an imprecise POI. Do not rename the nearest OSM footprint automatically.

A conflicting [Wikidata library item Q109375573](https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q109375573) has coordinates 6°48′7.70947″N, 3°55′18.01578″E, no coordinate references, and an official-website field pointing to TASCE. That coordinate was **not used**. TASCE and TASUED must not be conflated. A university-wide map pin likewise is not evidence for a specific main gate.

## Visual reference inventory

These descriptions are observations from the actual images, not measured architectural drawings. Colors vary with lighting and date. Model dimensions, hidden sides and roof geometry still require approximation.

### Library: official exterior image

- Page: https://tasued.edu.ng/tasued-library/
- Image: https://tasued.edu.ng/web/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/library-1536x458-1.jpg
- Visually inspected, reference only. Not redistributed because an open image license was not established.
- **Recognizable form:** long symmetrical **three-storey** yellow facade, repeated tall orange-red pilasters, shallow dark roof overhang, regular white-framed cyan/dark glazing. Central entrance has a projecting curved black canopy, a white name sign and crest above. Clipped conical trees, two approach paths, a low central statue/plinth and black-white curbs frame the entrance.
- No measured orientation or match between this facade and an OSM footprint established.

### Main gate

- Local: `assets/models/references/gate.png`.
- [Commons source](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:TASUED.png), Mtriller, 2016-02-16, CC BY-SA 4.0.
- **Recognizable form:** cream/yellow horizontal beam across vehicle/pedestrian openings, paired tall rectangular central pylons framing a round crest, squat central security booth, black vertical-bar gates. Palms and twin curved streetlights rise above black-white curb stripes.
- No GPS in inspected source. This is a historical gate appearance, not evidence that every detail survives today. **Do not fabricate a gate location from this photograph.**

### Alex O / Alex Onabanjo complex

- Local: `assets/models/references/alex-o.jpg`.
- [Commons source](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ALEX_O_BUILDING,_TAI_SOLARIN_UNIVERSITY_OF_EDUCATION,_IJAGUN.jpg), Ourlibrary, 2024-11-27, CC0.
- **Recognizable form:** two visible levels, curved yellow frontage, salmon-pink vertical fins, wraparound upper balcony with thin black rail, large grouped white-frame dark windows. Broad reddish faceted roof with a raised rounded central cap.
- [Official history](https://tasued.edu.ng/history/) confirms the Petroleum and Petrochemical Science Complex donated by Alex Onabanjo. The photo's “Alex O” title supports subject identity but supplies no coordinate.
- Do not assign this name to a circular OSM footprint solely because it looks round.

### Old Senate building

- Local: `assets/models/references/old-senate.jpg`.
- [Commons source](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:OLD_SENATE_BUILDING_TAI_SOLARIN_UNIVERSITY.jpg), Ourlibrary, dated 2025-08-14, CC0.
- **Recognizable form:** cream two-storey gable-front central pavilion with shaded ground-floor portico, lower single-storey wings, weathered gray pitched roofs, reddish fascia, horizontal louver windows and externally mounted AC units.
- “Old Senate” is the photo title. Do not silently rename it the current Senate building. No GPS supplied.

### CEPEP

- Local: `assets/models/references/cepep.jpg`.
- [Commons source](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CEPEP_BUILDING,_TAI_SOLARIN_UNIVERSITY_OF_EDUCATION,_IJAGUN.jpg), Ourlibrary, 2025-03-14, CC0.
- **Recognizable form:** two visible storeys, long pale-yellow block, salmon/coral applied rectangular facade frames, broad red corrugated hipped roof, white-framed dark windows, AC boxes and satellite dishes.
- No GPS supplied. The photo title does not justify placing it at a randomly chosen rectangle.

### Driveway landscape

- Local: `assets/models/references/driveway.jpg`.
- [Commons source](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Driveway_to_main_gate,_Tai_Solarin_University_of_Education,_ijagun.jpg), Ourlibrary, 2024-07-19, CC0.
- **Recognizable form:** broad curving roadway, visible grade changes, grassy separation, repeated clipped small shrubs, dense mature trees, slender lights, and highly distinctive black-white alternating curbs.
- Visual cues support landscape design. They do not supply road elevation measurements or a georeferenced road alignment.

## unplacedReferences

The expanded audit is in `docs/CAMPUS_AUDIT.md`. Its machine-readable `data/campus-reference-catalog.json` now contains 36 unplaced research subjects, including First Gate and Second Gate requests, source-specific identity evidence, unknown dimensions, and model selectors only where a photo-inspired preview exists. These are not 36 proven distinct structures. Library metadata remains in the separate positioned array with an explicitly approximate point.

The summary below is a subset. These references have **no accepted point** and intentionally do not appear in the geographic landmark array:

| ID | Subject | Evidence | Placement status |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `tasued-main-gate` | Main gate | Downloaded Commons gate and driveway photos | Unplaced, no inspected GPS or independently confirmed gate pin |
| `tasued-alex-o` | Alex O complex | Downloaded Commons photo and official history | Unplaced, avoid circular-footprint guess |
| `tasued-old-senate` | Old Senate | Downloaded titled Commons photo | Unplaced, identity is historical title |
| `tasued-cepep` | CEPEP building | Downloaded titled Commons photo | Unplaced |
| `tasued-lecture-theatre` | Lecture Theatre | TASUED-authored map research, node 12 | Unplaced, no georeferenced plan or facade inspected |
| `tasued-cohum` | COHUM | Specific 2024 exterior inspected in audit | Unplaced; do not use COHUM.jpg, which depicts a painting |
| `tasued-etf` | ETF building | Specific 2024 exterior inspected in audit | Unplaced, yellow two-storey gallery wings |
| `tasued-lis` | LIS building | Specific low-rise department facade inspected in audit | Unplaced, must not confuse the department building with the library |

Useful primary research lead: Usman, Adebayo, Rufai and Idowu, **Determination of the Shortest Path of a Nigerian University Map Using Dijkstra's Algorithm**, in [AICTTRA 2017 proceedings](https://aicttra.oauife.edu.ng/upload/2017-AICTTRA-Proceedings.pdf), printed pp. 143-149. Search-indexed tables identify university nodes, including gate, COSIT, PETCHEM, CEPEP, Senate and Lecture Theatre. The diagram is explicitly a **simulated graph**, not a georeferenced plan. The publisher download presented a browser challenge during inspection. No image was copied, and no graph coordinate or route weight was promoted into geographic data.

## Web-ready model API

```js
const manifest = await fetch('assets/models/manifest.json').then(r => r.json());
const palm = manifest.assets.find(asset => asset.id === 'palm');
const gltf = await loader.loadAsync(palm.path);
// Normalize the complete scene bounding box to the selected artistic size.
// Clone gltf.scene, preserving children, then place in scene x/y/z coordinates.
```

The models are copied unmodified from official Kenney archives. Original filenames are preserved. The manifest `pack` foreign key resolves to author, license, license-file path, source page, archive URL and archive directory. Each media file is inventoried exactly once. Recommended dimensions are artistic hints, **not measurements of actual campus objects**.

- [City Kit (Suburban)](https://kenney.nl/assets/city-kit-suburban): selected vegetation and landscape props only. No houses.
- [Nature Kit](https://kenney.nl/assets/nature-kit): palms, trees, shrubs and grass with material colors.
- [Car Kit](https://kenney.nl/assets/car-kit): generic sedan, van, taxi and cone. Not a claim about TASUED's fleet or Nigerian taxi livery.
- [Building Kit](https://kenney.nl/assets/building-kit): columns, curved corner, doorway, steps and border. These are ingredients, not completed TASUED reconstructions.

**Texture trap:** suburban, car and building GLBs load a relative `Textures/colormap.png`. The three PNGs are different and must not overwrite each other. Keep each pack directory intact. Use the entire loaded scene for cars because wheels are child nodes. Normalize scene bounds, not the first mesh only. Nature models need no external palette.

## Validation and remaining limits

Run `python3 assets/models/validate_assets.py` from the repository root. It checks exact manifest coverage, binary GLB headers and chunks, JSON readability, scene/mesh presence, local external resources, buffer bounds, licenses, original archive identity when available, size budget, and landmark projection. Browser loading and artistic integration belong to the main Three.js implementation and are not claimed by these data-only checks.

Open work: field-check the library point, collect a georeferenced campus plan or explicit gate GPS, confirm landmark footprint identities, and photograph hidden facades before calling the scene geographically accurate. Keep photo-inspired reconstructions labeled **modeled**. Keep generic OSM buildings unnamed until evidence is supplied.
